“The act or process of coming to direct knowledge or certainty, without reasoning or inferring”.
Though there is much agreement as to what it is, how we come to get this direct knowledge or certainty is debatable. Some say it’s an unconscious activity of the brain, whereby your subconscious mind picks up subtle bits of information that is delivered to the conscious mind as useful data. Others say it is the result of a higher power working through us.
I personally agree with both theories. Now you’re probably thinking ‘you can’t, that’s cheating, you’ve got to pick one’, but think about it for a minute, why does it have to be one or other? When I think of intuition, I think of it as having two levels, the first level the work of the subconscious mind and the second level the work of a higher power.
With all of my studies into the power subconscious, there is no doubt in my mind of its ability to unconscious pick up the subtleties of our surroundings and deliver it back to us as the kind of useful data, we can use to more smoothly navigate our way through life.
However, some of my own personal experiences with intuition go far beyond the realms of subconscious selection. For example: feeling my way towards the salty rocks in Jordan (with eyes closed), getting lost in London and feeling my way through to my destination as a new driver, feeling out the right key (again with eyes closed), picking up the bad vibes (related to history) from land and objects etc, etc. Those of you who follow my public page, ‘Angelena Lewis: Personal development coach, author & speaker’, will have heard me share some of these stories on my Saturday Facebook lives entitled, ‘He, She, It is good LIVE’. Though I do agree with the concept of subconscious selection, these stories and countless others have shown me that, when it comes to intuition there is also something much greater than us at play.
The way I see it, we are like a computer and our subconscious mind is like a hard drive, with lots of really sophisticated, high tech software that’s able to detect the smallest of details and use it to assist and inform the best functioning and future of the computer as a whole. I like to think of this as the first level of intuition and this alone makes us very powerful.
However, Albert Einstein said it best when he said, ‘The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant, we have created a society that honors the servant and forgotten the gift’, because this is not the extent of our power. You see, software for the Internet also dwells within this computer, within us. I like to think of this software as that God spirit within but in order to really utilize this power, we need to connect to an outside line (God, universe, nature whatever you want to call it). When we do this, we are able to download new information, information that could not have been otherwise known or detected. This is intuition at level two.
These downloads (Intuitive hits) often come to us via feelings and body sensations and whilst we may receive these downloads in different ways, it is by no means a unique gift, reserved for the few but instead our birthright, apart of what makes us. US!! Mind, body AND SPIRIT.
Yes, the concept of intuition is universally understood but how it occurs, science, whilst having made some efforts to understand it, have not, yet come up with a theory that fully reflects my personal experience of intuition in its entirety. So, until then I’m sticking to this theory. A theory, which I believe reflects the truest extent of our power as human BEINGS.
“When I think of intuition, I think of it as having two levels. The first level the work of the subconscious mind and the second, the works of a higher power. Access to level one provides a definite advantage but access to both makes us powerful beyond measure”
